Smurfs are nice, blue creatures living in a smurf village. The community consists mainly of gentlemen who engage in all sorts of activities, and among them lived one girl (Smurfette) and several underage Smurfs. Their guardian and leader was the wise and prudent Papa Smurf, who, unlike his companions, wore red pants (probably a kind of tights, because they covered the feet, legs, buttocks and part of the stomach) and a similar hat. Most were in white, although there were exceptions to this rule. They all lived in mushroom houses and had a good time until the evil sorcerer Gargamel, accompanied by his tomcat Clakier, once again tried to capture them.
The idea of this really extensive story with many unexplained threads was conceived in the second half of the 20th century by a Belgian illustrator nicknamed Peyo (Pierre Culliford). Interestingly, the name of these blue creatures was invented completely accidentally (in the original it is Les Schtroumpfs), and yet it has been translated into almost 30 languages! It's called creativity!
Have you ever wondered why they were blue? Was it influenced by the color of the sky under which their lives took place? Or some potion that Gargamel once gave them, but wasn't effective enough for the Smurfs to get trapped? Or is it their diet? After all, the well-known and liked 'Smurfne Hity' had three songs in its collection that clearly emphasized that blueberries were an element of the smurfs' menu. 'Smurfnych jagód basket', 'Smurfnych jagód taste' and 'Smurfoberries' were probably created because the Smurfs were fond of these fruits.
