What is xylitol?
Xylitol is a natural sweetener extracted from fibrous plant parts. Almost identical in taste compared to table sugar, but with two significant differences - xylitol is low in calories and has a low GI glycemic index. Xylitol also has natural cooling and moisturizing properties. The xylitol molecule contains only 5 carbon atoms, not 6, as most sugars present in nature - it is this difference in the structure of the molecule that determines the many advantages of xylitol compared to ordinary sugar.
