Contrary to what the name might suggest, samurai sauce has nothing to do with Japan and is not used for sushi! Samurai sauce is particularly popular in Belgium and the Netherlands, where it comes from. It is a mayonnaise-based sauce with a distinctive flavor, often used as a dip for French fries. It is sweet, spicy and has an intense color, which may be red or orange, in the full-calorie version it contains mayonnaise, ketchup, spices, chili sauce or curry paste, and sometimes also ingredients such as coconut milk, peppers or garlic. The taste of the sauce is usually rich, and the combination of sweetness with a slightly spicy aftertaste makes it go perfectly with fries, sandwiches and other snacks.
