Bob's Red Mill Textured Vegetable Protein in fine granular form is made from soybeans and is ideal for use as a meat additive or gluten-free vegetarian meat substitute in virtually any recipe that requires ground beef or turkey. Great for tacos, roasts, chili, sloppy joe and more, they are made from skim soybean flakes and are low in fat (3%) and can replace ground beef not only for vegans!

Textured vegetable protein is a very nutritious soy product. It is rich in wholesome protein and is fat-free, making it an excellent alternative to meat. TVP® (TVP® is a registered trademark of Archer-Daniels-Midland Co.) is made from skimmed soy flour that has been pressure-cooked and then dried. TVP® Bob's Red Mill is naturally gluten-free and is produced and packaged in a separate, dedicated gluten-free facility. It is routinely tested for cross contamination using the R5 ELISA test protocol to guarantee its gluten-free status.

How is textured vegetable protein different from protein hydrolyzate?

Texturized Vegetable Protein (TVP) is sometimes equated with Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein (HVP), but these ingredients are produced in different production processes and differ significantly in properties. a large amount of monosodium glutamate (MSG), while textured vegetable proteins do not contain MSG at all, they are distinguished by a uniform composition and a very high protein content.

While TVP® does not add much flavor by itself, it is low in fat and calories, is rich in wholesome soy protein, and is a good source of dietary fiber. Soybeans contain wholesome protein with all the amino acids necessary for human nutrition, which must be provided in the diet because the human body cannot synthesize them. It is also a good source of iron, magnesium and phosphorus.

How to use textured vegetable protein in recipes?

Textured vegetable protein is an important, valuable, and practical source of protein for vegans. Just soak them in boiling water for a few minutes and then strain. Add finely chopped onion, oil, soy sauce, orange juice, sumac, Asian 5-spice blend, black pepper, and whatever spices you like. Allow the flavors to pass for at least an hour. Heat the pan, then add the mix of TVP and spices and finely chopped tomato and stir frying / stewing for a few minutes. Take it off the heat, add some fresh coriander and pine nuts ... and enjoy the brilliant taste!

TVP flour is very easy to use and takes the flavors of the ingredients in whatever recipe it is added to, making it an extremely versatile addition to a wide variety of dishes.

Use TVP® as a thinner in meat or protein patties, roast meats, stews and soups. It works great as a protein supplement to bars, salads, cereals, baked potatoes and stuffing.
